Squadron 57: Night Storm
Plot
Those who dreamed that the world would remain at peace was sadly mistaken. The greed of humans will always drive them to war, seeking land or domination over the others.
The year is 2150 and the world was flung into another world war. The aggressors pushing their way outward from Northern African and the Middle East, waging war against Europe and Southern Africa. The allies of the Northern African power push their way from South America to the North, seeking to gain power over all the land. Yet two nations to the east remain neutral.
But this is no war as we know it. The war is not set in our dimension, but a dimension where dragons walk the face of the planet and fly in its skies. These dragons are not the mindless beast from legend, no, they are equal to humans in many ways, speaking the human languages and debating over politics. Many of these dragons serves in the air forces for their countries, because there are no planes, no fighter jets here, only dragons of all shapes and sizes.
The dragons fly to war with their human companions and fight to the teeth for what they believe is right.
All this talk of war might have you wondering, where does our story start. We can't posibly tell what happened in an entire world war. This is true, so our story will concentrate on one Squadron from the Southern African Air Forces, who has taken in trainees from the Europe and North American Air Forces, in the hope that the different types of dragons might give them an advantage in the fights ahead.

Please ensure you have read through the library. Most of the important information has been placed there to make it easier. Be sure you read the Dragon Races part of the library, because it is an important part of the roleplay.

Major Ilara Ashfire Wing Leader of Squadron Wing B Human
Name: Ilara Ashfire Rank: Major Position: Wing Leader Age: 28 Gender: Female
Description: Ilara has the appearance of someone that has faced hardship in her life. Her expression almost always the same. The last twelves years were not easy on her and it shows in her expression as well as the scars that are present on her neck, back and right shoulder. Many of these scars were just flesh wounds but the one that runs from her shoulder down her back was given to her by an enemy dragon.
Her skin is slightly tanned from being in the African sun for long hours of the day. Tough not tanned enough to be called dark. She is of average hight and build and well toned due to training.
Ilara's hair is a reddish brown and warn short closed cut to the head, from afar this almost gives her a manly impression and she has been mistaken for a man on several occasions because of this.
The colour of her eyes are a dull green-gray, which tent to give her the appearance of someone not completely there with reality.
As for clothing, well she likes cloths which girl doesn't. Off duty would be the only time she would show off her figure, though she refused to dress skimpy. She prefers jeans and elegant shirts, it is very rare to get her in a dress, but she doesn't pass up the opportunity to dream over a well cut evening dress.
Personality: Ilara lost most of her carefree personality in the time she spend within the air force. She became hard and unwilling to open up to others, this meant that anyone that seek her trust would result in them spending months even years of trying to open her up to them and only once she decided that she could open up to that person would she show some of her carefree nature.
She has a curious streak, a streak that got her into trouble more then once in the past. She would normally be the first to investigate something strange, even sometimes ignore the warning signs in order to quell her curiosity.
Civilian History: (Will add later) Enlisted History: (Same, later) Other: (Whee later)
Dragon
Name: Zirdu Age: 12 Gender: Female Race: Spear Head
Description: Zirdu is typical of a Spear Head in shape and build. She is agile in the air as well on the ground and she tends to show it off at any chance she gets.
She is lighter then most Spear Heads, being almost pure white on her belly and a very light blue on her back. This does make her harder to spot from the ground when there is cloud cover but yet in clear skies her colouration isn't a big advantage.
The secondary horn set on her head comes further out then the normal Spear Head, the horns come passed her noise for almost 60cm, almost double the length of another Spear Head her size.
A very distinguish feature in her eyes, they are shape and keen and is a deep purple in colour, which is a contras to her lighter body.
Personality: Zirdu loves to show off, much to the annoyance to the other dragons, but she doesn't care what they say most of the time she is higher ranked then them. This tends to give her a snobbish appearance.
She also tends to be sarcastic and isn't afraid to let her opinion known even if it insults others around her.
Yet even with her snobbish and sarcastic nature she is very loving and one of the few that can force her rider to open up. Once you get to know her she is very gentle and understanding and even shares the curiosity of her rider.
Other: (Also later XD)

New Base, New Faces and a New Squadron
"You call this a dragon compound?" Zirdu exclaimed after having a good look around the place. "There isn't even cover for all the dragons. Do they expect me to lay in this unforgiving sun?" Even though Zirdu was an Southern African dragon, she disliked being in the sun too long and from the look of the base where they were going to be stationed the next couple of months, she wouldn't have a choice other then sleeping under the stars or the sun.
"Quiet you do you want Alfonso or Kayla to hear you. If they do you might end up getting a smaller spot to rest." Ilara was looking up to Table Mountain that stood out some distance away not even looking at the dragon. It has been a few hours now since they have landed in the Cape Flats base near the southern coast of Southern Africa. Cape Town was as busy as ever and even the people in the base was running around preparing spots of land for the dragons' stay there. This would be the first part of the training that the Sqaudron will have to go through.
Ilara sighed softly, "This is not China where the dragons sleep in pavilions with cloth hanging. We will just have to adapt, you became spoiled with your private cave when I was the Co-Leader."
Zirdu stuck her noise in the air. "I'm not spoiled, I just do not understand why we have been down graded just because you took this position."
"This position, this squadron maybe the only way we can win the war. We concentrated to much with keeping the different country dragons apart. If we succeed we might tip the scales in this war. Do not forget it." Ilara was starting to get annoyed with explaining it over and over, this was the fourth time that day she had to say it. "In any case lets wait for the rest of the Wing to show up, they should be here shortly and report in."
Zirdu only nodded silently and went to inspect the few trees at the edge of her clearing to see how much shade they will give her.

(( Human
Name: Iliása Moralya d’ell Liardeth Rumorte Rank: Tactical Officer Position: 2nd Lieutenant Age: 25 Gender: Female Description: She has bright green eyes and black hair that reaches until halfway her shoulder blades. The tips are dyed a vibrant red. Because she is from Europe (and because of another reason as well) she has a rather pale skin, since sun doesn’t really touch it all that much. Mostly she can be seen wearing black or darker colored clothing, because of several reasons (mostly tactical), but she likes the colors red and white too. Red and White are mostly colors she is wearing when she is off-duty or in here spare time. She is very very fond of dresses, especially gala dresses or ones that are very ‘chique’. But she doesn’t mind wearing anything other than that either. Iliása will change clothing every now and than in the roleplay, but in the beginning she is wearing a red-black gala-dress. Personality: iliása is someone who isn’t really mad quickly, nor really long. She loves peace, silence and calmth, and will behave like this as well. She feels a bit noble, yet she doesn’t consider herself superior in any way. She has strong belief in varies new age things such as twinsouls, totemanimals, chakras, energies, auras, special stones, etc etc. She is often found giving these kinds of stuff away for free aswell. Because of this, you can see lots of necklaces around her neck. Pendants, special stones, special symbols and so on, all with their own special meaning. She is also wearing a silver tiara on her head, which goes down on the sides of her head to just behind her ears, so it’ll never fall off. Varies of bracelets are found on her arms, which the most remarkable is a silver bracelet that twirls around her arm, with lots of symbols carved in it. On her fingers, there can be found lots of rings, mostly silver. They are in all shapes and sizes.
She and Imurdan mostly fly at night, because with their dark colors, they are barely seen against the dark skies and they consider it an advantage. (That’s the other reason why she is rather pale). They mostly sleep during daytime, but while Iliása likes to be in the sun every now and than, Imurdan does not really like it. Both of them like the moon very much and the reason she wears a lot of silver is that it can be linked to the moon, while gold can not. She believes in varies effects all this stuff has for her. Civilian History: (to be added later) Enlisted History: (to be added later) Other: (none so far)
Dragon
Name: Imurdan Age: 9 Gender: Male Race: Black Decay Description: Imurdan mostly looks like every Black Decay, with their common features. He seems somewhat more slender for the most Black Decays, but it makes him slightly faster aswell. He has several scars running over his sides and his paws from past fights, but due to the black skin, they are barely visible. His eyes are colored a bright neon-green. What perhaps is strange for a Black Decay is that Imurdan is wearing a silver necklace with some sort of pendant on it in the shape of two wings, spread open. Iliása gave it to him and although he didn’t want to wear it in the beginning, he has grown fond of it and won’t ever drop it. Personality: Imurdan is a rather grumpy dragon, and is rather fond of his night-rest (or better, day-rest) and shouldn’t be disturbed in the middle of it. He has a bit of a weakness for Iliása, and her calm personality, and he considers her equal, something he doesn’t really consider humans to be. He always considered humans a lesser being than dragons, and respects most other dragons rather quickly, while has a hard time respecting humans, often called two-legs or no-wings by him in a denigrating way. Other than that, if he considers you ‘worthy’ to talk to and to be with, he can be a very nice and friendly dragon, which he will not quite be when you aren’t ‘worthy’ yet. He is very dedicated and will do pretty much anything to get to his goal. Other: (perhaps coming in later) ))

Name:Nikias Epaphras Rank: Captain Position: Wing Co-Leader Age: 27 Gender:Male Description: Nikias is of medium height and wieght, he his brown hair and two different colored eyes; one blue and the other an olive color. He usually dresses in the military uniform that he was given and is rarely seen out of it even when off duty. Although there are times where he will dress in casual atire; If he does it is usually a striped polo shirt and kaki cargo pants.
He has a scar over his left eye that runs the entire length of that side of his face. (will add more) Personality: Nikias is very shy and distant because of being moved around so much, he made few friends and never tried to after awhile. When he was young rarely will he speak to someone first because of it. Although that isn't the case all the time he will speak first if he is introdicing him self. He is often quick to anger if someone invades his personal space or if he is threaten. Civilian History: (Will add later) Enlisted History: (Will add later) Other: (Will add later)

It was a beautiful ball in the middle of a valley somewhere in Spain. Iliása had been invited there to celebrate the latest events that had taken place on the border of Europe, where the North Africans had been attacking. Iliása was one of the people who had been there and was part of the successful defeat of the North-Africans on that front.
It was in the middle of a huge forest, in an open spot in the shape of a circle. It was an very old site with a beautiful old stone ruins of an ancient temple. It was even used as a spot for pilgrimage. There were decorations everywhere in gold and silver, reds and blues. Famous guests in the most beautiful dresses were present, men and women of all around Europe.
Iliása had taken one of the decorated wooden chair on the side, near one of the main pillars of the old ruin. A glass of red wine elegantly laying in her fingers. She was sunk away deep in thoughts, her eyes gazing into nothing at all. Or so it seemed, at least. But in truth, she was doing something very else, something nobody would understand, as she has found to mostly be the only one to believe in such things. Iliása, she’s a special one. She isn’t interested more in anything than new age things. At the moment she was trying to restore the energies that were flowing under her and trough her, as she believed. Her hands lay folded in each other in her lap. She was wearing a beautiful long dress with lots of different layers and decorations. It was mainly colored with different shades of dark reddish colors and blacks.
But she was to be disturbed. A tall man with small glasses on his face rushed towards her in a speed that wouldn’t cause suspicion in the gala. He took a seat next to her and whispered something in her ear. Instanly, her eyes flew open and she looked at him. “You know how I think about you disturbing my séance, but I understand the importance… I’ll inform Imurdan right away” she nodded, stood up, quickly wiped any dust from her clothing and rushed away towards the dragon stables at the edge of the forest.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“What? Are you bloody kidding me?” The loud roars of the dragon reached far trough the valley. Iliása didn’t know for sure if his voice would reach the celebration gala, but she was pretty sure it did. Imurdan, Iliása’s dragon, a black decay, was a fierce animal and since it was only sunset, he had only just waken up and had trouble of a terrible mood, which was something that occurred more often.
“Look, I told you about your evening moods.” Iliása replied simply, her hands put together like she was praying. “Please calm down, Imurdan. It is of terrible importance. We must leave at once. There is not a moment we may lose. It is a long way.” She laid her right hand on the side of the head of the Black Decay.
The dragon lowered his head gently to her, laying it on the ground again. As if magic, he had actually calmed down. But the expression on his face stood rather sad, worried. “You must get some things to travel than, Iliása,” he said, but the human woman besides him simply shook her head lightly. She pointed at the bag she had tied on Imurdan’s back already. “I had a feeling something was going to happen. I grabbed some things together before we came here.”
“But, you must change your clothing? Is that dress not much to cold up there?” he pointed with his nose to her dress, pushing softly to her side, than pointing up in the air with his nose. “It’s bitterly cold up there.” She quickly looked at her sleeveless dress, but once again, she shook her head, now she got a worried expression on her face as well. “I know, but we must go at once. There is not a second to lose. I know it will be cold, but try to ignore that fact, we must travel as soon as possible. Since it is night, we may be able to take a shortcut over the North African territory if we fly high enough.”
A very deep sigh. The dragon blew out quite some air trough his nose, letting a small bird crash against one of the trees. But neither one noticed. Iliása quickly took off her shoes with the long tip and the long heal. They would not be handy to travel with them. Stuffing them into the bag on the dragon, she climbed on Imurdan’s back and grabbed hold of him.
As soon as she had taken a seat on imurdan, a small drop fell on her shoulder, which made her sigh as well. This was not what she needed, nor could the gala use it. But she could not worry about that now. “Iliása?” Imurdan’s deep voice sounded soft, as if in a whisper, “we can fly above the clouds to avoid the rain, but I’ll be colder for you…” The woman knew she wasn’t going to like it, but if they flew in the rain, they’d both get wet and cold, so it was better if she suffered alone and not the dragon. Imurdan was too important to get them there. She kicked softly in the Dragon’s skin, giving her answer, which he nodded as an answer. With a long push with his feet, imurdan pushed himself into the air and opened the wings.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(it was noon now, right?)
It was around noonish as a dragon landed on the ground in South Africa with a hard thump, as if a dragon crashed to the ground, which was infact nearly the fact. Not all that far from Zirdu and Ilara, a dragon landed to the floor. It was obviously exhausted. It landed on his paws, but than collapsed to the ground, the wings still open. The female on top simply rolled down on the right wing. She was breathing shallowly but she still stood up. Her hair was frozen, the once so beautiful dress was dirty, wet and ripped. She walked over to Ilara, but it was quite clear she had quite a bump on the head and she wasn’t walking normally, as if her leg was injured. “Please… get some water for Imurdan. He’s exhausted. We’re not used to the sun, certainly not like this. We’ve flown from sunset, and Imurdan has given more than he ever has. Please help him at once.”
Than she walked back to Imurdan, laying her hands on the head, which now rested on the floor. “it’ll be okay, Imurdan,” she said in gently words, her hands laying on his nose, “think of the moon. She’ll help us. Think of the moon.” A soft groan came from the dragon, but Iliása wouldn’t hear it. “Hush my baby, it’ll be okay. You’ve done an awesome job. I’ve never demanded so much of you and you did it. You really did it. She hugged the dragon a bit, while the dragon seemed to get some sort of smile on his face. “the moon…” he growled softly.

((Whee, Ceph is joining ^-^ Consider the position yours.)) Ilara watched as the Black Decay came to land, more nearly crashing into the ground from exhaustion. She merely clasped her hands behind her back and watched them. Did they try to fly all the way here from one of the Europe districts in a single flight? True a Black Decay is capable of it but it wasn't recommended.
She then watched as the girl came strangling towards her, ask for water for the dragon and strangle back. Sighing softly she followed and approached the dragon, Imurdan from the side. It was folly to approach an acid spitter from the front when you had no idea in what mood it was or how delirious it became from fright or exhaustion.
Ilara bent down next to the head for a second, then stood up and walk a few steps away. "He might need more then just water in this sun and the weather has been unforgiving this year." After saying that she shouted a word in one of the native toughs, the shout was rather high picked almost sounded that her voice was used to shouting in this manner.
It wasn't two seconds and five young boys about the age of thirteen, some younger, some older stood before her. Ilara looked among them for a moment, it was hard to believe at times that they were some of the future dragon riders. Yes, the South African air force took in kids from a young age to train them to become riders. There entire education was given to them at bases like that one.
Ilara quickly gave them a couple of orders and they scattered to complete them at post haste. After this she turned back to Iliása, "Don't worry, we will make his as comfortable as possible. Just ensure he doesn't spit or hurt one of the kids. I will never hear the end of it if they were harmed." She then walked back to were Zirdu was watching, the Spear Head had pursed herself on her hind legs to either get a better view or to show off to the new dragon, it was hard to tell which.
After a moment the boys came running back to where Imurdan was, three was carrying a rather large flat looking bucket fulled with water; how they were able to carry it was a mystery. The other two were carrying what looked like large tent poles and a large camo green sail.
The three boys placed the bucket down next to the dragon's head and sprinted off to help the other two, pitch the poles to make a make shift tent for the dragon.
Zirdu made a soft moan sound and looked down to Ilara. "Why does he get a tent and I don't."
Ilara didn't even bother to look up. "Your a South African dragon for one and two if you behave yourself I'll see what I can do about getting more shade for you."

Imurdan saw in the woman's eyes that she truely did care, and was thankful. Het let her approach and come closer, something he wouldn't have done otherwise. He was too tired now anyhow. He didn't really want her to come closer, but knew she wanted to help, so he let her. He also saw another dragon behind them all, a spearhead, if he wasn't wrong. But he turned his head away from the dragon. He didn't wanted to be seen like this by other dragons. Certainly not spearheads.
Iliása noticed Ilara's good intentions too. She bowed her head gently and smiled. "Thank you," she said in a soft voice, "He will be okay, will he?" But without waiting for an answer, if she was even expecting one, she turned back to Imurdan, her hand slowly stroking over its skin. "The moon" she said confirming. Imurdan began to slowly say something but Iliása stopped him. "Don't speak, my dear. I know you don't like to be told what to do, but please. You need all the strength you have...
Than she saw five young children coming to them, spurting to everywhere after getting an some orders. She quickly looked at Imurdan and stroked over his head. He pushed some air through his nose, "i heard her. None will be harmed.. just don't let them come too close for too long." Iliása managed to laugh softly, "Don't worry, my dear, i'll take care of that."
She hadn't expected them to be back so soon, so she had took a seat on the side of the dragon, while imurdan gently laid his tail around her in a loving way. He wouldn't admit it if you asked, but he truely cared a lot for this human. Iliása knew this, but was smart enough not to mention anything alike. Perhaps it'd be nice to close her eyes, only untill the kids returned. But it did not take longer than half a minute before she had fallen asleep.
Imurdan had noticed it because of her movements of her breating, that had become more heavy. He looked thankfully at the bowl of water and quickly glanced at the boys that were setting up the tent. "Please be as silent as possible" he asked them, almost whispering not to scare them, just before he pointed at Iliása with his head. Than he started to drink the water. The water for his thirst and the tent to escape this horrid sun were the best gifts he had gotten all month. He was tired too, drained, but he would try to stay awake. Nothing was going to happen to Iliása, even if he had to be awake all day in the middle of the desert in the burning sun.

Reterkav stood beside Nikias after just landing a few minutes before. He looked down and spoke softly to Nikias, “You really have to get over this fear of yours. It’s not doing you or me any good having you act like this.” He shook his head as he looked up and saw their CO, “There is our CO, you might as well report in for duty before she thinks you deserted the Wing.
“Reterkav, I really don’t need this right now. I hear it enough from you all the time and you know how I feel about meeting new people,” Nikias replied in a monotone voice. “And I don’t like you insinuating that I would desert the wing, we are at war and we need ever able bodied human and dragon on the front lines or else we have no chance in hell to win if people started to desert.”
“Why are you not afraid to talk to me like that and you are afraid to talk to others like that?” Reterkav questioned with a snort. “And plus I wasn’t saying that you would, I was just pointing out that you should report in. Which you should do now.”
Nikias sighed loudly, “Fine I will report in.” He slowly started to make his way over to Ilara with Reterkav walking beside him. After he arrived near her he stood at attention, “Captain Nikias Epaphras and Reterkav reporting for duty Ma’am.”

Human
Name: Sabel Thrade Rank: Lead Reconnaissance and Intelligence Officer Position: Captain Age: 24 Gender: Female Description: Sabel's frame is short, wiry--flexible, but hardly muscular, and streamlined, perfect for reconnaissance and working with Hyperion to scope out the territory.
Her eyes, sharp from both birth and training, are interestingly colored. Starting around the pupil is a ring of copper, which gradually transitions to be a slightly grayish-green, and then to a vibrant blue. Her eyes are expressive—so much so that her friends used to tell her that ‘her eyes were easier to read than any book’. After joining the army, she did make an effort to control how much emotion was betrayed there, but to no avail. Even some particularly perceptive strangers can pick up on her feelings.
In her never-ending fight to maintain her stubborn individuality, Sabel has an Eye of Ra tattooed over her left eye ((and, while I do so hate to link to a picture, this one’s perfect for what I had in mind—Not by me, but by taranthor on dA)) in varying shades of green, blue, white, and gray.
Her hair is another rather… interesting asset, as well. For starters, it’s got many, many layers in it, giving it a slightly messy look, especially when it’s not brushed properly. The next thing, or perhaps first thing, one might notice is the fact that it’s red with blond highlights. However, she didn’t stop there—the highlights are localized and designed.
The first layer of hair includes the bangs, and only reaches down halfway to her face. Her ‘bangs’, as she would call them, actually reach until just a little ways before her ears. This hair is pushed to one side, and hangs down the side of her face. This is the only part of her hair that is highlighted. Except for the occasional ‘complete vertical’, the highlights themselves only outline the bangs (excluding the area closest to the ear).
By way of scars, Sabel doesn’t have many. Whether it’s because of their relative ‘inexperience’ when it comes to the air force, perhaps by skill, or (as many would like to think) sheer dumb luck, she’s avoided all close-calls and scrapes. Thus, her skin is relatively free of any distinguishing marks like scars. Personality: While Sabel might look the role of the rebel, she isn’t exactly one. Her appearance is more an ‘arsenal’ in her personal battle to feel like she’s not just part of the bovine herd. It does not reflect on her ability to follow orders. While she’s not so submissive that she’d go on a suicidal mission without making an argument over it, making the leader’s ears bleed with a motley assortment of insults, pleads, and all-around pessimistic comments, she knows when and when not to argue her case.
Sabel’s biggest fear in life is to be just one of the crowd. It’s for this reason that she dresses so strangely—so as to make herself known, and thus not just be ‘some random person’—even being ‘some crazy person with a strange tattoo and hair’ would be better in her mind.
Sabel, while she’s not stupid enough to make half of these comments (although a good number still get mentioned—she’s got one for almost every moment, it might seem), tends to make dry observations about various times.
Regardless of what others might think, Sabel doesn’t mind a good joke, even if she is at the heart of it. If she can laugh at it, then why not? In all honesty, she probably feels that the biggest problem with the air force is the lack of jokes that she sees around there. Civilian History: Sabel was born in North America, the grand-old U.S. of A., to be exact. Growing up, she was surrounded by talk of war and of dragons, both of which fascinated her. Even at age six, she had fantasies of getting her own dragon, of riding to war with commonfolk trailing her in awe, and of coming out victorious or dying in a blazing flame of glory. It seemed the same with her other classmates—with talk of the brewing wars, it seemed that the reality of it all wasn’t shown for what it was. Only the brighter side was shown, and not the blood and the stress and the time it required to become such a person.
Her school life didn’t really help to deter such a ‘suicidal’ wish. Her friends didn’t, either—all of them were just as determined as she to join up. So, at the age of eighteen, the moment after she received her graduation diploma, she was registered with the army to join the air force—and, with luck, get a dragon. Enlisted History: ((Oy…I’ll add this later, too, then. ^^;; Soon’s I get some good inspiration for it.)) Other:
Dragon
Name: Hyperion Age: 10 Gender: Male Race: Blade Chaser Description: Hyperion, as is the norm with Blade Chasers, has spines and spikes strewn across his body. Each horn starts out the color of the scales surrounding it (which varies, depending on the location on his body), then gradually fades to a just off-white color. Thin and lithe, his strength lies in the element of surprise and his agility and grace, not on brute force. If it came down to it, he’d probably lose a battle of strength, but, when it comes to reconnaissance and guerilla tactics, it would be difficult, indeed, to best him.
His undersides are a bright yellow, as are varying patches of his fore-body. Starting at his hind legs and going back is a massive patch of gray, extending all the way to the tip of his tail. His forequarters are covered in ‘calico’ patches of yellow and cream, broken only occasionally by smudges of gray.
Setting him apart in appearance from other Blade Chasers, Hyperion has ‘tiger-stripes’ across his body. Not as defined, perhaps, as they would be on a true tiger, his tiger-stripes have are more smudged into his scales and appear more like someone scribbled these on almost as an afterthought. The stripes themselves have no definite pattern to them, no starting point, no nothing. They start and stop with little regard to where they are, except to remain parallel with one another.
Hyperion's forelegs and lower chest are black and, upon closer inspection, tough and gnarled. A direct result from an encounter with a black decay, the skin is still sore to the touch at times, and there are moments where he'll still feel spasms of pain through his legs and chest, although it's, for the most part, healed up. Personality: Hyperion is prone to cynicism, outspokenness, and downright bluntness. In fact, those three words sum up his personality quite well, at least from the standpoint of the first-time meeting.
Extreme cynicism is the first indicator that Hyperion's around. While it's not so much pessimism in the extreme, he tends to use constant sarcasm, the occasional 'why bother when it'll just go wrong?', and the constant criticism of his wingmate's mistakes. After realizing this, someone might infer that Hyperion is not at all good at emotional support. That inference would be correct.
However, where he might fail in emotional support, he more than makes up for in his skill. There are few dragons better for scouting than he. He's silent, fast, and knows the perfect moments to keep his mouth shut. He's also a master of quick thought and tongue, and his lies and his truths merge together until it's impossible to tell which is which.
Hyperion has a twisted sense of humor, and he's almost always capable of finding something to laugh at in the worst of circumstances. He and Sable can laugh for hours at the strangest of things, no matter what it is.
Hyperion has an extreme dislike, if not hatred, towards black decays. When he was in training, during a skirmish, one of the dragons had gotten a little 'out of hand', as the dragon's rider had put it, while apologizing profusely--an understatement, considering that his forelegs and lower chest had been splattered by acid. While he bore the dragon's rider no grudge, he could see the satisfaction in the dragon's eyes. He never forgave that dragon, and now bears the race, as a whole, a grudge for the scars he still has.

((Yeah, I realize that she definitely doesn’t look ‘run of the mill’. I dunno why, but I wanted a character who seemed… original, to say the least. However, it’s not so much a ‘rebel’ thing as it is a ‘stubbornly individual’ thing…
And the hair was uber hard to describe correctly. ><” So, if anybody was confused by it, I do have the link to my inspiration. –cries- That place took forever to go through and decide with, too…))
"Ah, the sun," Hyperion remarked, squinting up at the yellow disc in the sky. "How different from home... there was no sun there at all when we left."
Sabel paused midstride, smiling slightly. Such conversations as these--full of the odd observations, complaints, and discussions over increasingly irrelevant topics--were the norm for them. It wasn't that they lacked anything good to talk about, for there definitely was, especially considering that they had just undergone a huge change in their environments--it was just merely habit to speak of odd, 'boring' topics to avoid any eavesdroppers. An odd tactic, but when there was nothing to hear, there was no reason to continue their spying.
"Indeed. It's been sunny for the past week. I suppose that'll be more of an advantage for us... if we fly in the sun, we might be harder to spot... it'll be easier for you to blend in there," she replied thoughtfully. A dull thud brought all discussion to a halt, however. "Sounded like... somebody new." Sable grinned her usual crooked smile (in fact, there was room for debate whether or not she even had an 'uncrooked' smile).
"Oh, joy. More stench-sodden dragons to sleep near at night. I tried sleeping upwind of them last night... the results were rather... inconclusive, considering the wind last night--or lack thereof," Hyperion said with an air of the long-suffering. He spoiled it, however, by winking at Sabel, and sweeping a wing in the direction of the sound. "After you, m'lady."
Sabel grinned back, giving a mock bow and flourish in return to his antics, and then heading off into the direction, Hyperion's head bobbing next to her side as he walked. All of a sudden, he stopped and hissed in irritation. Sabel stopped a few paces beyond, looking at him quizically. "A black decay... I'd know the stench of their rot and corruption anywhere."
Sabel adopted a sympathetic expression, returning to stand next to Hyperion. She laid a reassuring hand on his brow: "C'mon. We're in the compound--if they attack any of us, we'll beat the life out of them first, and then ensure that their military careers are ruined. We're faster and smarter than they are, savvy?"
Despite his discomfort, Hyperion bared his teeth in a grim smile. "Perfectly," he replied. "So, let's go see what the commotion is about, shall we?" he said, nodding his head in the direction of some scurrying stable boys, struggling under a massive bucket of water and tent supplies.
Sabel raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms and rocking back on her heels. "Wonder if our new 'friend' is in a little need of help." Hyperion snorted derisively, but said nothing. "Well, if they're to join our wing, we'll probably find at least some form of our squadron command there... no doubt thats why the grooms are so intent on rushing through this: Trying to make a good impression on their superiors."
Hyperion laughed softly. "No sense of style, hm?" he asked, referring to Sabel's tattoo and hairstyle.
"Precisely."
Hyperion chuckled once more, offering Sabel one of his shoulder horns for her to grab hold of. Swinging herself up onto it with a practiced motion and sitting on the horn, Hyperion set off towards the stables once more. As he went, and the scent grew stronger, his nose wrinkled more in disgust and his eyes narrowed more in frustration. The process continued, until they reached the stable door. Then Hyperion's 'game face' took over, and he adopted an entirely innocent facade. However, to one used to Hyperion's moods, Sabel wasn't fooled. She could see the steely look in his yellow eyes and the distance with which he held them.
Smiling a little herself, although this one was slightly less forced than Hyperion's calm expression, she approached the Spear-head. Listening to conversations, she'd picked up that the major rode a spear-head--considering that this was the first one they'd seen lately, she felt it was a good guess to say that this was who they were looking for. That and the apparent disdain the dragon held for their surroundings implied one used to much higher acommodations--a typical indicator of one used to being in charge.
"Sabel Thrade," she said smoothly, nodding to the major, the other captain, and the black decay and its rider.
"And Hyperion," the dragon interjected, discreetly winking and quirking one side of his mouth up in a smile that only Sabel could see. She rolled her eyes, but allowed herself a smile.
"Captain, Reconnaiscance and intelligence," she continued after Hyperion's introduction. "A nice title, don't you think?" She realized she was being blatantly insolent, but, as far as she was concerned, this place needed a severe lightening of spirits. Everybody there seemed to be radiating more pessimism and dreariness than Hyperion could generate when he was trying--in fact, in this environment, Hyperion had decided to take it upon himself to avoid his usual cynicism to maintain his and Sabel's own high spirits.

Vincent had made it to the small cave on the outskirts of the small town that he sometimes went to. It was not to far after day break, it had been clear for the passed few "days". Now was the time that Silver, his dragon, hated. For the next six months it was going to be a day. No night in which she could hunt, but that did not bother Vincent. He walked in slowly, Silver could freeze him with her breath if she really wanted to.
"Silver, I have something to tell you, and also request.", Vincent said softly. Sharp crystal blue eyes looked at the rider.
"What is it, Vincent?", Silver said, knowing that Vincent never came to bother her when the six months of night were over, unless it was something important.
"We have to leave for South Africa, As soon as possible... I was hoping that you would not be angered by it.", Vincent said softer, the crystal eyes narrowed on him.
"Why?", Silver said, her voice almost growling, but giving her rider some hope.
"They are forming a wing of dragons and dragon riders to end the war. You and I were selected because of you.", Vincent said, looking at the dragon. Silver moved her body slowly, then spread her wings reading herself. "Are you ready then?", Silver said.
"More then ready", he said taking his usual spot behind the head of the dragon. The dragon kicked off, flying as fast as she could to her south south east.
